When people talk about sensing spirits and energy, people often say “extra-sensory perception” or “a sixth sense”. That makes it sound clear-cut, like you have a sense that covers perceiving light: “sight” or perceiving sound: “hearing”. This makes spirit and energy perception seem like a thing you can or can’t do depending on whether you have that extra sense. But a lot of people who perceive spirit entities and energy aren’t using an extra sense to do so - either their already-existing senses are what’s cluing them in, or their very thoughts and memories are giving them the feedback that lets them know something’s around. Many people who do this aren’t even aware that they’re perceiving any sort of spirit realm - the experiences are just part of their day-to-day lives. This means that if you’re trying to perceive spirits and energy, you shouldn’t focus on gaining abilities you don’t have. Focus on discerning which of your senses are already cluing you in about the hidden world around you.
This article is going to focus mostly on the “mundane” senses, and other common human perceptual traits. It’s also going to describe some ways that ‘paranormal’ abilities manifest that you may not be aware of. If you do have a sense beyond the usual ones that enables you to perceive spirits and energy, reading this may help you combine that with the basic senses to give it a stronger foundation, or it may turn out that your sense has a lot in common with established senses.
